13th - 16th August Continued...
Maisie Crossland & Phoebe Montague - Present a 10 minute play in Studio 65. Brand new, new work...
The Wild Side by John Constable - local writer and performer John Constable introduces us to SHUNT's extraordinary location in the oldest and most riotous part of London town.
To the west: the theatres, bear-pits and legalised brothels of the Clink Liberty. To the east: the docks and foul trades of Bermondsey. Here, in this labyrinth of caverns under the railway arches, we journey back in time to when these were wine-cellars - all the way back to a Roman wine-jug found on the nearby mudflats, bearing the inscription; 'In London at the Temple of Isis'
This fascinating and unusual historical talk will be followed by a Q&A session.
The author will also perform short extracts from his visionary cycle of poems and plays, The Southwark Mysteries. This and Secret Bankside - Walks In The Outlaw Borough are among John's works published by Oberon Books. Both will be available to buy after the talk. Wednesday 13th August
