MART Performances

Producing Loopholes
by Joan Healy & Louise Ward
8.30pm, Long Corridor

Joan Healy’s work mostly uses live art that incorporates installation, electronics and the tactical reappropriation of utilitarian objects from mass culture. Her work questions the viewer’s perception of reality by presenting them with seemingly physically impossible performances that reference the capitalist exploitation of human labour, and attempts to subvert traditional representations of gender and sexuality in popular culture.

Louise Ward’s practice also involves bricolage and assemblages made from readymade consumer items. In her process-based work she poetically references a mental reservoir of accidental occurrences that she has experienced, and contrasts that with her observances of predictable patterns in both her daily life and in nature. Mixing these assemblages with video and vocal harmonies, she evokes the memory of her experiences and conducts a metaemotional inquiry into her own state of consciousness. She also invites the public to engage with her work by performing and installingtemporary sculptures in public space.

For the Mart tour, Joan and Louise will be incorporating themselves into assemblages made from found objects, and using DIY instruments to construct a multi-layered audio-visual performance.

Surface Attention
by Katherine Nolan
Durational

Surface Attention is a series of bodily interventions in the social and public space of the gallery/theatre.

Whether centre stage or roaming through the space, the female performer costumed and primed for erotic display in black lingerie, absurdly directs her performance to walls and corners. Finding gaps, nooks and protrusions in the architecture, she presses and squeezes herself across surfaces and into crevices, feeling and exploring the architecture with her skin.

This new work opens out the narcissistic impulse in performance, literally and symbolically pushing it to the surface. The performance space as frame - whether purpose built gallery, theatre, re-used industrial or leisure space -becomes implicated in the female performer's perverse desires. The work seeks to twist the voyeuristic gaze by presenting a spectacle that shifts between erotic, absurd and abject.

Flashing Bodies Action 4 The Garden of Earthly Delights
by Completely Naked
10.00pm, Old Bar

Inspired in the The Garden of Earthly Delights we want to transform the Shunt space into a magical forest; where all can happen.

From the early mythology to current days, unique characters meet in this forest and perform scenes for the camera. In the Flashing Bodies style, this performance for the camera is done by you, the audience!

Guided by our infamous Faun, the Three Graces may meet the Three Piglets, Little Red Riding Hood may not escape the Big Scary Monster, Nymphs glaze Dyonisios getting drunk, while Venus and Europe try to avoid kidnaps and rape from the Gods.

And as in the painting, sinners enjoy the tempting garden of delights; will they be condemed to hell or will they reach paradise?

Is up to you. Come and participate!
